Watch Out for that Fork in the Road

According to Wikipedia "a fork in the road" is a metaphor, based on a literal expression, for a deciding moment in life or history when a major choice of options is required.

I was traveling to a friends house for a Superbowl party this past Sunday and had to use my Navigator.  Before I left the house I typed in the address and found the map directions to be quite far but it didn't look too difficult.  As I was driving, one of the instructions was to "take a right at the fork."  I started laughing, visualizing an actual fork sticking up out of the road.  The Navigator was telling me which way to turn and at that moment I realized it was much like my chosen career...the path I have chosen.  The directions were laid out for me and the destination was already known.  All I had to do was follow the instructions.  The plan was already in place.

We often know exactly where we want to go, or what we want to do with our lives, but have no idea how to get there.  Writing it down and making a plan is often our first step.  Each twist and turn or stretch of road makes its way into our plan.  Then the distance is set with how long it may take us to get to each "fork in the road" and then to our final destination.

There have been several "fork in the road" moments in my life.  Was there a plan?  Sometimes yes and sometimes no.  At those times when I had no plan I found myself camping out a bit before traveling on.  (even in the literal sense, trust me, I don't do camping well... :) )

To get to where you want to be - get your directions first...don't try to wing it - you just might get lost. Keep your focus and follow your passion...you will find your way.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could just type our goals into a Life Navigator and get the directions...?

Radical Thought #4a (Your Inner Circle)

OK...I was asked to expound on my last blog about surrounding yourself with positive people. Here goes...

This is what has worked for me...Pick four people.

First person - Your Rock to lean on - someone who will see you through your good times and bad times. Someone you can tell anything; your sounding board. Someone who will be faithful to your cause...no matter what.

Second person - The Believer - the person who believes that you can do big things with just a little...someone who believes in what you have set out to do no matter how big the task may seem.

Third person - A powerful voice - impetuous - someone who will tell you like it is. Someone who will not tickle your ears but give you honest advice and believes in you.

Fourth person - This is your BFF - someone you trust with your soul. Someone you can count on. Someone willing to make sacrifices to help you be successful. Someone who loves you dearly...

Well there you have it...your inner circle.

Keep Following Your Passion,

Cheers

Radical Thought #4

We are on step #4 of a Radical Thought to "Follow Your Passion"

Step #1 - Are you willing to take a chance
Step #2 - What will it take
Step #3 - Never lose site of your dream

Step#4 - Surround Yourself with Positive People

Surrounding ourselves with positive people can be a great asset to keeping your eye on the prize. Pick a few of your closest friends - those who know you best and tell them what you want to accomplish. Let them help you stay grounded and on target with your goal. Now...I am not saying pick people who will tell you what you want to hear. Pick people who will tell you what you need to hear - most importantly those who have faith in YOU.

Sometimes all we need to hear is "You can do this"

Keep Following Your Passion

Radical Thought #3

We are on step #3 of a Radical Thought to “Follow Your Passion”

Step #1 - Are you willing to take a chance
Step #2 - What will it take

Step #3 - Never lose sight of your dream

Remember the carousel ride...? Did you grab the Brass Ring...? Hopefully that image reminds you of how you can reach out and grab your dream. Keep your eye on the prize…never let it go.

I know all of you have wonderful dreams of doing great things or seeing great things. You can...! Now that you have written it down...visualize it. Come on – I mean really visualize it. Never lose sight of it...

How does that look to you? What would it take? Really – what would it take to reach out and grab your brass ring?

You can do anything you set your mind to do...I know you can because I did...

Cheers,

A Radical Thought #2

As we continue the steps to following your passion I am reminded of all the wonderful things that have happened in my life since I decided to Follow My Passion. It has been a wonderful journey and I want to share my process with you. Step #1 was - Are You Willing To Take A Chance

Step #2 - What Will It Take

Write down what it will take for you to Follow Your Passion. This worked for me...I always find it better to write things down, especially if it's something that may take me awhile to accomplish. What will it take? Make a list. Will it take packing up and moving across the country? That was the major item on my list. In 2004 I took that leap of faith. I left a 15 year law enforcement career, packed the car and drove across the country from Virginia to California to begin my dream.

So...write it down and look at it. How does it look? How does it make you feel? Are the gains worth the risk you may have to take?

Radical? You bet...

A Radical Thought

If you could change anything about your job or life what would it be...?

What if you decided that you wanted to leave your current job to "Follow Your Passion" How would that impact your life? How would your life change? How does following your passion change how you look at things?

There are many people who have changed their lives for the better by taking a leap of faith. They jumped off the diving board and made a big splash into a world that they are happier, healthier and more comfortable in.

Step #1 - Are you willing to take a chance

To "Follow Your Passion" is not an easy task by no means, but it can be done. You can change your life. You can be doing what you have always loved doing. You can make a difference in your life and others around you.

"Follow Your Passion" - A radical thought? You bet it is!!!
